Get Amped for the Weekend with kubxlab: Release Your Inner Child!

by Ashley Tredenick on June 14, 2013 at 10:11AM 0

For this installment of “Get Amped for the Weekend,” we’ve decided that the best way to let go of the week’s stress is to channel your inner child. With that in mind, we’ve devised ways for you to get a healthy dose of nostalgia. Hopefully, this will grant you the wonder you always used to feel when you were a kid. It’s a good place to be when you’re getting ready for a stellar weekend.

1)            Watch TV Shows from Your Childhood

2)            Eat Some Sugary Cereal

We live in very diet-oriented times, so this Friday, why don’t you cut loose and eat a big bowl of Cap’n Crunch with crunchberries? This weekend, who cares? Start your day with a sugar-blasted cereal you ate when you were a little kid. Put chocolate syrup in it; go wild!

3)            Ride Some Roller Coasters!

Or at least go to a theme park if roller coasters aren’t your thing. The rides are probably more exciting than they used to be, since you’ve lost your little kid indestructibility. It’s healthy to seek a few thrills here and there!

4)            Play Outside

It could be anything, however simple. Sometimes it’s nice to just go outside and throw a football. It’s even more fun if there’s someone there to catch it. Just leave your cell phone inside and go play!

There are a million other ways to connect with that inner kid, but we feel it’d be best to let your inner child speak to you. I’m sure he or she has plenty to say. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, when you’re really little you get baths in the kitchen sink, right? So... Read more…

A Journey to the Third Dimension with kubxlab

by Ashley Tredenick on June 12, 2013 at 03:29PM 0

OK, we know. We live in the third dimension, already, but not completely. Television’s 2D—oh, wait, not anymore. Films are in 3D, too. Two dimensions just don’t cut it anymore it seems. Most exciting of all, however, is the development of 3D printers. They’re just what they sound like, if you can wrap your head around that. We’ve begun to print transistors, sort of. And, if you don’t get the 3D picture, here’s one in action, printing some tasty chocolate for you:

Yeah, it could happen a little quicker, but why don’t we focus on the fact that this thing is printing food. It’s probably not the chocolate you’re accustomed to; it’s composed of interesting powders to which moisture is added in the printing process, i.e. algae, grasses, and (gulp) pulverized insects. If that doesn’t look like chocolate, though, then we don’t know what does. So, what can we do with synthesized food?

With printed food, we could help solve world hunger because the process “reduces waste to nearly zero,” as we would find ourselves eating reconfigurations of material we wouldn’t normally eat, according to a recent National Geographic article. Furthermore, our current food technology can’t quite make a 5-year mission to Mars, which is definitely in the near future for humankind. As we take the final frontier further and further, 3D-printed foods will be key in sustaining us. The first dish to be served in 3D? Pizza! Because, of course it has to be pizza.

What do you think about 3D printing, and what would you like to see printed? Tell kubxlab about it on Facebook and Twitter.... Read more…

ampjacket iPhone Case Lands on Thrillist

by Ashley Tredenick on June 10, 2013 at 05:35PM 0

kubxlab's ampjacket has another fan! We’ve just landed on Thrillist, a leading digital lifestyle publication. Thanks, Thrillist! This post’s topic? Multi-tasking. The ampjacket case for iPhone 5 does two things at once: it protects your phone and it amplifies your volume by more than double. Pretty neat. It also learns Latin and makes an origami crane, all at the same time. Ok. That’s not exactly true, but still pretty impressive, no? The accolades are adding up, so we’re just gonna let the ampjacket keep grindin’ and shinin’! Stay tuned for more ampjacket news and kubxlab news in general.

What can your ampjacket do? If your ampjacket’s multitasking for you, too, let us know how on Facebook and Twitter. Check out the full feature here: http://www.thrillist.com/own/nation/the-ampjacket-protects-your-gadgets-and-makes-them-twice-as-loud?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social.

Get Amped for the Weekend with kubxlab: Extrava”goat”za!

by Ashley Tredenick on June 07, 2013 at 12:36PM 0

Our Apple accessories are handy because they can turn a whisper into a shout for our music lovers and, really, for anyone who wants to get just a little louder. In this spirit, we’ve put together videos of a few other amplifiers to carry you into another lovely weekend. We submit for your approval, goats yelling like people:

kubxlab can appreciate life’s simple pleasures. It’s nice when something as simple as an iPhone case can provide a service as complex as amplification. In this sense, the ampjacket looks like one thing and acts like another. In keeping with the tradition of the goats, here is a video of other characters that look like one thing and act like another, namely animals that act like people, beyond just yelling:

Have a splendid weekend! You’re welcome, everyone.  Now, bask in the glory of animals with identity crises!

What are you doing this weekend to avoid an identity crises? Tell us on Twitter and Facebook.

Bigger Picture Thinking: Zooming Out with NASA’s 6,000 Mile Photo

by Ashley Tredenick on June 03, 2013 at 09:47AM 0

Last April, NASA’s Landsat Data Community Mission zoomed out, way out, to take “The Long Swath.” It’s a 6,000 mile-long 120 mile-wide strip of your favorite planet, Earth. And, yes, that’s a ridiculously long swath. At a modest 19.06 gigapixels, it’s the biggest photo of Earth, ever. Watch earth’s climates change and change again as you take a stroll from Russia to the bottom of Africa.

Follow NASA’s 6000 Mile Picture here:

Landsat’s a satellite (clever name, huh?) in orbit, so the entire shot only took around 20 minutes. Makes sense when you think about it hurtling through space at 17,000 miles per hour, so this shot is just what it was looking at for those minutes. Why is this so interesting, you might ask? Well, we’re seeing what was happening in all those places at the same time, which has never been done before. Landsat shows us a good bit of Mother Earth for twenty minutes. We think that’s a pretty important perspective. Next time you’re feeling a little confined, or you’re getting caught up in whatever you’re doing, take a tip from the Landsat and zoom out. If you have a minute, check out what these astronauts have to say about their zoom-out experience:

Neat stuff.

Tell kubxlab about your zoom-out experience. How do you remember how little we are in the bigger picture? We want to hear about it on Twitter and Facebook.

Ampjacket for iPhone Graces the Pages of Cult of Mac

by Ashley Tredenick on May 31, 2013 at 04:27PM 0

Cult of Mac featured the ampjacket iPhone case on their front page with a fantastic review, “AmpJacket Makes Your iPhone Louder And Stronger.”

Cult of Mac writer, Charlie Sorrel, went hands-on with the latest in our line of Apple accessories, highlighting how the ampjacket enhances the iOS experience: “I’m struggling to find anything bad about this case. It even makes Siri easier to use.”

Charlie’s verdict: “Light, tough, flexible, cool-looking, available in a rainbow of not-quite-garish colors and able to do its job just fine; there’s a lot to like about the AmpJacket. It even turns your iPhone into a miniature see-saw (teeter-totter) for pet chicks (see photo), which is a bonus not mentioned anywhere in the FAQ. In a world where a branded iPhone skin can cost the same amount as this $30 utilicase, you’d be a fool if you didn’t at least consider it.” And, we couldn’t agree more!

Scope out the full review at:

As Charlie notes, the ampjacket doubles as a miniature see-saw for pet chicks! What other unconventionally awesome uses for the ampjacket have you found?  Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter!

iPhone Case: Fashionable for Father’s Day

by Ashley Tredenick on May 31, 2013 at 10:44AM 0

People are starting to hear what the ampjacket is putting out, and at twice the volume. With Father’s Day imminent (June 16, don’t forget!), you can give your dad, or any ‘ol dad, a thing that he craves most: an inexpensive, innovative new gadget. Dads love gadgets, and dads certainly love saving money. Soon he’ll be listening to Grateful Dead deep cuts, doubly loud, in his cool new iPhone case.

A recent Father’s Day gift ideas blog post on shopathome.com showcased the ampjacket, and it makes sense. You can amplify the sound of your iPhone with no wires or power source. And the whole thing is only $29.95. And let’s not forget the colors. However misguided it may be at times, our dads love style. Watch him coordinate his ampjacket with his favorite power tie, or fanny pack.

This Father’s Day, don’t forget the little colorful iPhone sound amplifier that could tie your dad’s outfit together. Keep checking in with us. There will be more posts to come as the ampjacket’s buzz spreads its sound waves further. K.I.T.!

How’s the ampjacket iPhone case working for you? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
